Preface:-

          The Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, 1949, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888 and the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Industrial Townships Act, 1965 contain provisions regarding Property Tax in the Urban Local Self-Government Bodies in the State. Furthermore, under Government Resolution dt.05.04.2016 and 07.04.2016 only the properties in the name of Gallantry Award holders in the armed forces as well as the properties held by widows of Ex-Servicemen residing within the areas of the Urban Local Self-Government Bodies and under Government Resolution dt.09.01.2017, the nominated properties of unmarried martyr soldiers in the armed forces have been exempted from Property Tax.

          Ex-Servicemen have selflessly defended the country without regard for and by putting their lives at stake. Keeping in view their service to the nation and the representations received at various levels, it has become imperative to grant exemption in Property Tax to all Ex-Servicemen residing within the  jurisdictional area of Urban Local Self-Government Bodies for raising morale of all Ex-Servicemen and to accord them due honour.

          “Hon’ble Balasaheb Thackeray Ex-Servicemen and their Widows Property Tax Amnesty Scheme” is sought to be implemented in Urban Local Self-Government Bodies and under this Scheme the Government contemplated the matter of granting property tax exemption for properties of all Ex-Servicemen in Urban Local Self-Government Bodies in the State. Accordingly, the Government has resolved as hereunder:- 

Government Resolution:-

          The Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, 1949, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888 and the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Industrial Townships Act, 1965 contain provisions regarding Property Tax in Urban Local Self-Government Bodies in the State. Having regard to the factual situation set out in the Preface, the Government has resolved to grant exemption in Property Tax to all Ex-Servicemen residing within the jurisdictional area of Urban Local Self-Government Bodies under “Hon’ble Balasaheb Thackeray Ex-Servicemen and their Widows Property Tax Amnesty Scheme.” An individual who is eligible for such tax amnesty would be required to furnish a certificate from the District Servicemen Welfare Board.

          This Government Resolution is made available on the website of the Government of Maharashtra viz.www.maharashtra.gov.in and its Code Number is 202009071710231825. This Resolution is attested and issued under digital signature.
